2025-2026 leadership

Entering his fourth year with the team, Patrick Murphy is the elected president for the 2025-2026 academic year. After rowing for St. Joseph Preparatory School’s for four years in high school, he joined our team in 2022 to continue his career. As president, Murphy serves as the team’s lead representative, both as an athlete and administrator, and works to ensure that the crew continues its legacy of success.

Off the water, he is also the outreach coordinator for BC Libertarians.

Fun Fact: He can play the banjo!

Jonathan Wright is a senior at Boston College and has now been rowing for eight years — four at St. John’s Prep and four more at Boston College. He’s rowed in every seat on both sides of the boat, bringing versatility and experience to the team.
Wright picked up rowing after realizing baseball and soccer weren’t his calling, but he still wanted to push himself as an athlete. What started as a backup plan turned into a long-term passion.
Wright’s values the discipline and structure that rowing has instilled in his life, especially during college. As Vice President, he’s committed to helping others discover the unique challenges and rewards that come with the sport.

Fun Fact: Jonathan can solve a Rubik’s cube underwater in a single breath.

Luke Shimizu serves as a coxswain and senior captain for the team. He also serves as the current parent outreach coordinator. He walked on to the team his sophomore year, inspired by his twin brother’s coxing career at Bates College. Since then, Shimizu has embraced his role as a leader both on and off the water, prioritizing leadership grounded in accountability, trust, and the pursuit of growth.

Fun Fact: Luke loves horses.

In the 2023 - 2024 season, Matthew Lee rowed in bow seat of the N4+ in the 2024 New England Rowing Championships, where their boat took third in the event and again in N4+ bow seat in the 2024 ACRA National Championship Regatta. During the 2024 - 2025 season, Lee again rowed in bow seat at the 2025 New England Rowing Championships (NERC), this time in the 2V8+. He maintained this seat for the 2025 Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta.
