Frequently Asked Questions:

What if I’ve never rowed before?
No problem. A majority of our varsity rowers have never rowed prior to BC. We look for tough, driven individuals who show determination and athletic potential. Our coaches and team culture will provide you with the environment and skills necessary to become an elite rower who can represent the university at a high level of intercollegiate athletics.

What if I rowed in high school?
Awesome! Rowing for BC will provide you the opportunity the chance to continue rowing at a high level of competition. Our experienced rowers provide a familiarity and understanding to the sport that is key to helping our novice athletes develop. Currently, our experienced rowers come from Canisius, Nobles, Manhasset, St. John’s, and St. Paul’s, among others.

How competitive is the team?
We are one of the most competitive club teams both at BC and in the ACRA (American Collegiate Rowing Association) league. In recent years, we have been one of the fastest growing programs. In 2017, our Freshman 8+ won the team’s first ever national championship, while the Varsity 8+ has finished 2nd and 5th overall. We have also seen top-3 finishes in the Second and Third Varsity 8+ events at our national championship.

Where do you row? Whom do you race against?
We row out of Community Rowing, Inc., located on the historic Charles River. Off the water, we utilize the recently completed Margot Connell Recreation Center, located on campus. Locally, we race against schools such as Bates, UMass, Williams, and Trinity. Nationally, we race top club programs like Michigan, Notre Dame, UCLA, and Virginia.

How does the team balance rowing and academics?
Though rowing for BC requires time commitment, our practices and competitions are scheduled so that our rowers can effectively balance their athletic, academic, and social lives. Our team culture and environment emphasize accountability and time management, enabling our athletes to excel on and off the water.
